2013-2014 School Year
School is back in session and I am so excited to see how much each of my students has grown. This year we are setting individual goals and we will monitor those goals as we progress in the school year. A great new website that will be great for K-5 students to access is ABCya.com. Please visit this website for fun activities to keep your students engaged after all homework is completed of course. ;)

Adopt a Family
My heart has become heavy for a particular family here at Clover Garden. I am asking for your help in giving this family a better holiday season. By December 14th please send in a $5.00 gift card. The gift card could be to places such as Food Lion, McDonalds, Hardees, Wal-Mart, or any other food or shopping store.
Thank you so much for your assistance

Fall into a Good Book
This year has gotten off to a great start. Students have been working hard on reading and math skills. I have seen lots of progress from each student. Parents remember that baby steps are steps and it may take us a while to reach our goals. Each success should be celebrated.
Programs: please visit http://www.ncsip.org/ for more information.
I am using the Reading Mastery Program for grades K-4. This program supplies direct instruction at the students performance level.
Grades 5-12 are using Language! 3rd Edition. This book has 6 steps for each lesson and 10 lessons for each unit. Unit objectives include phonemic awareness/ phonics, word recognition and spelling, vocabulary and morphology, grammar and usage, listening/ reading comprehension, and speaking/ writing. This allows students to get reading instruction in readiness stages.
Math instruction is based on students' needs and general education teacher's request. They are working on studyisland as well in order to get extra math practice.
If you have any questions please contact me.
Best,
Kalyn Cobb

update
Things are getting busy at Clover Garden! I have been going to different trainings which are helping me become a better teacher. The kids are getting deep into EOG prep materials and grades K-2 are getting into all new materials that may be a bit challenging. Please be supportive at home because Spring fever is starting to set in. I have seen many of my students getting into that mid-year slump and get lazy. Check behind them at home and make sure their assignments are getting completed! I cannot believe it is almost the end of the year. See you all soon.
